Why my dentist whispered this to me… | ZBW

I’ve been oil pulling for over five years, and it’s one of the few wellness practices I’ll never stop doing. It heals dental decay, supports oral health, and leaves your mouth feeling so clean it’s comparable to a professional dental cleaning.
Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice used to support oral health, detoxification, and whole-body wellness. Because the mouth is directly connected to the gut and immune system, what lives there matters.
🥥 Oil Pulling
Oil pulling involves swishing a natural oil (traditionally coconut, sesame, or sunflower oil) in the mouth for 10–20 minutes, then spitting it out. The oil binds to bacteria and plaque, physically pulling them away from the teeth and gums.
✨ Why I Believe in It (My Experience)
A few years ago, I went for a dental cleaning and was told I had three early “watch areas” — spots of very mild decay that weren’t severe enough to need immediate fillings and still had a chance to reverse. As someone severely scared and traumatized by needles, I knew I had to do more.
I didn’t panic — I committed. I oil pulled every single day for months.
At my next checkup/cleaning (3-6months), those cavities were gone. As my dentist was doing her exam, she paused — she couldn’t find the three watch areas she had previously noted. Yes, they were early and mild, but every single one had disappeared.
I even asked my dentist what she thought about oil pulling. She leaned in and whispered that she’s not technically allowed to recommend or promote it — not because it doesn’t work, but because natural healing doesn’t exactly keep the industry profitable. Then she quietly told me… she does it too and agrees with it.
✨ Benefits
• Helps heal and prevent dental decay (in my personal experience)
• Naturally whitens teeth by lifting surface stains. (Great for smokers, coffee drinkers, etc)
• Reduces plaque buildup and oral bacteria.
• Supports healthier gums and less inflammation.
• Freshens breath longer than brushing alone.
• Can ease jaw tension and TMJ discomfort.
• Leaves your mouth feeling smooth, polished, and deeply clean — like you just left the dentist.
🌿 How to Practice
• Do 2–3 times per week (daily is optional, but not necessary)
• Best done in the morning before eating or drinking.
• Use 1 tablespoon of organic coconut oil.
• Swish gently for 10–20 minutes (do not swallow)
• Spit into the trash (not the sink)
• Rinse with warm water and brush as usual.
🤍 When Consistent
Teeth appear brighter, gums feel calmer, tongue & breath stays fresh, and your mouth feels clinically clean in a way brushing alone doesn’t achieve.
⚠️ Important Note
This is not a replacement for dental care — it’s a supportive, preventative ritual that works with your body.
